Symptoms of this problem include a loud, metallic clunk when shifting from parking to drive or into reverse. You may think your truck is falling apart. Well you are not alone, this is a known issue that keeps many owners awake but gladly there's a fix for it.
This problem is either caused by the following: fluid pressure problems or when there's too much clearance in the transmission gear components. As per the 2020 Ford F-150 Service and Repair Manual, solutions range from changing the fluids to fairly complex procedures such as installing updated transmission fluid control valves or replacing the transmission assembly entirely.
